Why carry out regular tool testing and tagging?

One of the biggest dangers in most workplaces can be the use of faulty tools or electrical equipment that can lead to serious injury or even death.

That's why having a robust system for regular tool tagging is an essential part of your legal requirement to 'take all practical steps' to maintain the safety of your employees and customers at all times.

For the past 5 years we've been providing tool tagging services to a wide range of Canterbury businesses including warehouses, factories, construction sites, builders, contractors, offices and motels/hotels.

Fully professional tool tagging service

As part of our service, all tested equipment is tagged with a unique tag number to help you with on-going tracking and identification purposes.  And once testing is completed we'll go over the test results with you to provide feedback or advice on how to correct any problems identified.

If necessary, it may be possible for us to carry out testing after hours to minimise any disruption to your staff or business activities.

Plus a 'managed for you' tagging programme

Many of our clients also rely on us to maintain a full electronic record of their equipment and test results and to advise them in advance of dates when equipment is due for retesting.  This early notice also allows them to arrange the most convenient time for testing to avoid any unnecessary disruption to their business activity.

If you feel this additional service would be useful, we'd be happy to assess your situation and provide you with a fully-detailed quotation.

Note that while there is no legal requirement for you to keep written records of tool tagging, the Department of Labour recommends that records be kept to demonstrate how you are managing your Health and Safety responsibilities. Some of the tests we carry out include:

  • Insulation testing
  • Earth circuit testing
  • Continuity testing
  • Functionality testing
  • Run / leakage testing
  • Polarity wire testing
  • Testing for damage or defects on accessories, plugs, socket outlets and connectors etc
